While Ann and Jim were here, we took a three-day trip to explore the Olympic Peninsula. It is an amazing treasure in this part of the country - a national park with three very different ecosystems found within it: Pacific coast, rainforest, and the Olympic mountain range. Carlton was such a trooper and we saw a ton in three days....yet I think there was still way more we left unexplored. We drove around the southern tip of the peninsula on the first day and explored the Pacific coast beaches that afternoon. Such amazing, rugged coastline with striking sea stacks and driftwood.
We stayed that night in Kalaloch Lodge right on the ocean, with breathtaking views. Carlton enjoyed his dinner with the waves crashing behind him.
The second day we explored one of the rainforests and discovered the beautiful Sol Duc waterfalls. It was a wet and chilly day, but well worth it.
On our third day we headed up to Hurricane Ridge and got some amazing views of Mount Olympus and the surrounding terrain. The day was clear and bright - just extremely windy!
One last shot from the ferry ride home, approaching Seattle. Carlton is one well-traveled infant :)
