We took a day trip with Ricky and Eden to Vashon Island, just across the Puget Sound from Seattle. It was fun to explore the island, on a sunny but cold and windy winter day. The ferry ride was an experience, as the water was extremely choppy; even though it was only about 20 minutes long, a few of us were really feeling it.

Our first stop was a park right on the water
but it was so cold and windy that we moved inland and found a hike in a beautiful forest, where we were shaded a bit from the winds.
We continued to explore some beautiful coastline, then found some lunch at a bakery in the little town, and headed home. Carlton summed up our super-fun day with his aunt and uncle like this:

On their final day in town, Ricky, Eden and I headed east toward the Cascade Mountains to explore a little mountain town called Snoqualmie (Mark and sick-boy Carlton held down the fort at home). Snoqualmie was historically a railroad town, so the trains are still prominently featured in their downtown.
Snoqualmie also boasts a gorgeous waterfall, which produces hydroelectric energy for the region. It was an impressive sight!
